Ultra running filled the void music left behind.
For most of my life, I processed everything by writing and performing music. Over 17 years, I chased that dream relentlessly—10 albums, over 1,000 performances. But at 30, I moved on. Music had been my catharsis, and without it, I found myself adrift.
That changed when I discovered ultrarunning. Struggling alone in the desert, stripped of pleasantries and people-pleasing, I confronted the parts of myself that longed for wholeness. Immersing myself fully into ultrarunning became an obsession—and, unexpectedly, I no longer needed music.
Then I moved to Paris, far from the trails and ultras. I still run here, but road running is different. I’m not doing long runs, and I haven’t raced in nearly a year.
Running helps me process. Ultras help me process and make peace. But without ultrarunning, I’ve been left searching for an outlet.
That search led me back to music. And now, I have CAVALE.
CAVALE is the name I’ve given my new project: one song a month, released over a year. It’s also the name of my favorite bar in Paris, where I forged dozens of friendships in 2022 and 2023. The word itself means “to run away,” which feels fitting.
CAVALE is my way of running—and finding peace—once again.
